Sad news from Genesis frontman, Phil Collins. A spinal injury that has been worsening from 50 years of drumming has finally taken its toll on Collins, who will never be able to drum again due to the severity of the condition.
Collins explained in a quote from the U.K. paper Daily Mirror, “My vertebrae has been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing. I can’t even hold the sticks properly without it being painful. I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through.”
What this development means for the future of Genesis is still uncertain. Rumors have circulated periodically about a reunion that would involve formers members Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett, but it’s thusfar never come to fruition. Regardless, Collins remains optimistic about his future, quipping, “Don’t worry, I can still sing.”
