Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomes Genesis

While the members of Genesis are preparing to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday, one band member will be noticeable absent: Peter Gabriel.

Though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is one of the most notable achievements that a performer can obtain, Gabriel has a conflicting schedule with orchestra rehearsal dates for his upcoming tour in support of his new album, “Scratch My Back.”

Remaining bandmates Phil Collins, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, Chester Thompson and Daryl Stuermer will be at the ceremony to receive the induction.

To qualify for induction in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, groups or individuals must have 25 years between the time of their first release and the present, and they must have demonstrable influence and significance within the history of rock and roll. Genesis’ first album, “From Genesis to Revelation,” was released in 1969. They will be joining the ranks of Van Halen, Madonna and Black Sabbath, all of whom have been inducted within the past four years.

Though no Genesis tickets are available for a tour, the members of the band are busy working on individual projects. Phil Collins is recording a Motown album due out in Fall 2010; Steve Hackett is working with Chris Squire (Yes bassist) on a project; and Mike Rutherford is spending time with Mike & the Mechanics and is expected to have a new album out in May.
